This 150 year old California Claro Walnut log pictured to the left, is being sawn into 3" thick slabs. I am using what is known as an Alaskan Mill, also known as a Granberg Mill. We are using a Stihl 090 chainsaw power head, and a 6' long bar. These slabs measured 9' long by 48" wide at their narrowest point. The slabs will take approximately 3 - 5 years to properly air-dry. The beauty of this process is that we can take the mill to the log. We also operate a stationary horizontal band saw mill that can cut 48" wide and the band height will rise to 48": we can saw logs up to 16' long.
